For Jake

For Jake

Jake-
This is a close up of an indoor piece I did with 1/3 beeswax, 1/3 boiled linseed oil, and 1/3 turpentine. This has been up for about 8 months. I sand blasted the piece first, then heated the piece with a rosebud just hot enough to slightly smoke the finish as I applied it. I have also used the same finish and gotten it very black by heating it much hotter. Sorry- I can't for the life of me figure out how to add images to a thread.

Finish aside;

Besides your wonderful finish, I particularly like the way you casually had the stem go behind the metalwork strapping on the door. It is a very nice touch.

Thanks Rob, sorry it's taken

Thanks Rob, sorry it's taken be a bit to respond. My plate seems a little full and i've been running around with my head cut off. Both the flower and finish look great. Do you know what the individual rolls of the wax and the linseed oil are? You recipe was 1/3 bees wax, 1/3 linseed, and 1/3 turpentine and Gerald's was roughly 78% butchers wax, 20% linseed oil, just enough turpentine to thin it out and JAP drier. Both of you ended up with great looking products and you both seem to be happy with the quality. Just curious if more wax adds this benefit and more linseed oil adds that benefit?

Jake- I'm sure that Warren

Jake-
I'm sure that Warren (and many others on this site) have infinitely more experience with wax finishes than I do, so I would certainly take their advice over mine. Primarily I just wanted to show you what a finished product looked like after several months. I haven't noticed that there has been much change in color over time.
I can't really tell you what the purpose for each of the components are, other than perhaps to act as a solvent carrier for the wax? I have tried this formula with and without the Japan drier, and haven't seen any difference. That may be due to my own inexperience.
