Snail Shell

Snail Shell

Something that has been laying around for quite a while and finally felt time to get it done. Lorrie you probably remember when I started on it. Heck of a time figuring out how I wanted to go with it. Originally it was suppose to be a simple snail with the snail body. Well I thougt it would look better as a vase so came up with this.
Made from bronze of some kind and around 10 inches high.

Slowly Grows On Ya

Hi Waren,
It slowly grows on ya. How about a metal flower or two?
Frank
Now that the bathroom is done, a pipe sprung a leak.

Flowers?

Thanks Frank, maybe in the future for metal flowers. Probably should tell who ever buys to not to trust for not leaking.

Sounds like your pipe!

Yeah I got my bathroom done too. But no plumbing work. Only smashed one finger with the hammer and that was on the second nail. Hard fifty year old stud makes you swing harder.

Looks great!

Hi Warren, Yes is does look familiar. I'm anticipating some antennae snaking around the top of it. What did you do for the patina? Nice job.

antennae?

Thanks Lorrie, for the patina I used liver of sulphur and on the base I made a home brew.

Warren, This looks great!

Warren, This looks great! Did you raise this piece entirely, or did you create it in two halves and then solder them together? Just curious? I really like the texture, and the detail of the piece.

Two halves

Thanks Jamie, no not raised but made from two halves and then used the same material to weld the halves together. Real fun trying to figure out how to form.

I love this Warren,
I've been imagining building a Nautilus Shell somewhat similar to this method of fabrication, but I'm thinking of making two dies to press the spiral shapes,a left and a right...
This is great inspiration for me.

Nautilus

Stephen, thanks for the nice comment. On a nautilus shell the whole design would be much different from this. Remember too that both sides of the shell is different in curvature.
