Nautilus Shell Wall Sconces

Nautilus Shell Wall Sconces

These are wall sconces destined to have LOW VOLTAGE UPLIGHTING. They are designed to be installed on either side and illuminate a painting for my client. They are fabricated from 1/8th inch stainless steel with a backing plate of 16 gauge.
Width is 14".I now hand off the sconces to another tech who will install the lights and wiring.
My client had originally seen my Nautilus sculpture:

and asked if sconces made to look like a sectioned nautilus would be possible for me to make. Apparently they are.
I had to enlarge the size somewhat in order to make room for the inside lighting fixtures. This will be LOW VOLTAGE lighting. The transformer as well as the wiring will be hidden in the wall.
There are two keyhole shaped mounting holes on the back of each fixture to mount to the wall and keep them stable even during an earthquake...Two mounting holes will also mean the electrician won't have to worry about balancing his wiring and lamps inside the shell. These are all features one must consider with FUNCTIONAL or DECORATIVE ARTS.
I still adhere to the mantra "form follows function".

I really like these. Why is it that the simple looking thing (not simple to do) look so great.
If I understand you correctly, you make the fixture and the electrician does the wiring. Do you do this for all of your lamps? Is the final finish matt or was that for the photo? I went to your link, thanks for the great info, not to mention the art work.

Thanks
Pat

Thanks for your comments...
Pat,I think as time goes on,I seem to channel my old man more and more...kinda scary.
I hear so much more of his words and training than I did when suffering his tough tutelage. But I DID have the rare gift of being able to express how much I valued the training, before he passed. He said maturity in the craft was expressed by making the difficult look simple, and by pairing the distractions and the non essential away ,so that only art remains...
I DO have an electrician wire my electric lamps.
I use many of my artisan friends to help accomplish my visions.
The finish on these is done with scotch-brite conditioning discs (by 3M).

Thanks

I enjoy doing the work but I do seem to get more out of it when working with others and sharing input.
