Pride of Scotland Sgian Dubh

This knife has a 4 7/8” dagger point, convex ground, random pattern Damascus blade with traditional spine grooves/partially serrated spine, and a deep, full blade fuller. The Damascus is hand forged from cable, 15N20, 1095, and nickel, and hardened to HRC 60. The Sgian Dubh is 9 1/4” overall. The handle is Afzelia burl with Lapis Lazuli and Sugilite inlaid into a checkerboard pattern, Sterling silver fittings, Ivory inlay, and a carved Ivory pommel.

red steel

Hello
I am not a knife maker. I have a friend that likes to play around with it though. He had told me that there was a type of steel he used and forged small knives from that when worked enough would turn a red color. Is this true? Do you know what kind of carbon steel this might be if any? Thanks.
