Working out an idea

This piece, a model for future experimentation is press work and folding.

I like it!

B.J.,
When I see a doily on a table, I just have to put my hand in the center and twist it. This does it for me.

Thank you for your interest.

I very much appreciate your comments. Made it myself, I did. With my smashing contraption. I like that name for it better because smashing contraptions don't bring a bunch of excess baggage with them. Smashing contraptions aren't as expensive, either. This piece starts as a circle of metal. locate a point about 1/3 of the distance of the radious from the edge. From that point use the smashing contraption and a curved pc of wire to create creases radiating from that point. I chose to increase the distance between them expotentially. Slightly each time like a sprial does. Anneal this metal. Flip it over and use the smashing contraption to create creases between the existing creases.Anneal this metal. You have broken the "surface tension" It's not flat anymore, of this metal. Now think of this sheet of metal as the doily in your post, If you haven't already. Do what your hands want to do. To the metal. Life is indeed better with a smashing contraption. When this gets hard to do anneal the metal. You are going to get good at annealing. Master of the SMASHING CONTRAPTION "always seeking low tech solutions in a hydraulic world" Brad send pics of smashing contraption.

Wow!

Impressive! So fluid, so much motion! I'd love one big enough to hang on the wall & I'm itching to put something crystal in that center piece, maybe a subdued lighting effect even =)
Nothing so prominent to take away from the beauty of the piece.

Aurora,
This form was a good teacher. Much of what I learned doing it is evident in my work today. Fluid is still important to me. Well, I'll not discourage anyone from exploring the possibilities of curved folds. I've pretty much told you how I made the form. If you would like me to make a larger wall hanger for you, fantastic. I'd love to. I do accept E-mail. bjsevertson@yahoo.com If this post of my work has tripped your creative trigger, let me know when you have questions. In the mean time for fun you could check out the butterfly farmer posts from my blog. Thanks again enjoy Brad
