Hi Rob, definetely "beauty is in the eye of the beholder"
The humanoid figure was arc welded: grind weld, grind weld till you could not seam at all at joints of 3/16" steel sheet. No armature needed. I would have like to make something more elaborate, but the client didn`t want to pay more. The pedestal, although hollow, still weighed about 9-10 thousand lbs. The first hoist had capacity but the hydrolic seals were not in shape and it did not move it an inch.Had to be installed, rained for 3 days non-stop,first joist truck got stuck in the mud.Next truck joist was more powerful, but when we arrived at the park we got stuck till midnight. You know that when it rains here in the tropics,it pours!Anyway, I like the pedestal, made with armature, concrete, and shaped with stained cement.Very easy to learn. I appreciate your more than kind comments Rob. And must say that, I welcome also criticism,so long as it`s constructive,so if you don`t like it, speak up, that`s is good too.Something to learn from all feedback.Nelson.

Here we go my bird man, what

Here we go my bird man, what about having a big eagle over an earthy pedestal? That`d be a kewl combination! Forgot to say the sphere was a little bug.First we made a template to cold forge the arches(1/2 the ball size),and assamble them around a heavy pipe runing from pole to pole, added cross armature to strengthen it.Then tacked pieces of sheet as the skin, to finally give a irregular coat of car bodywork paste...grind,sand some, and paint. The whole thing was about 14 ft high with pedestal. No plasma cutting, just basic tools and procedures.Nelson.

Hi Janet: well, I do hope

Hi Janet: well, I do hope some young and no so young people realize that there`s no boundaries,we set and overcome obstacles along the way,be it art work, any work, and on every aspect of life.It all starts in our mind,I do have limitations in regards to knowledge and means (equipment, tools), but that`s part of the growing process. For some the road might be smoother than for others, and complaining about one`s state is meaningless. The key is to enjoy the walk,or ride on your own road. My mind is hungry for learning new techniques and for discovering and forms...humbly.Your appreciation for my work is more than kind. I do feel too, yourè a gal working hard and eager to learn and discover, and wish well in all respect.Nelson.
