Thanks Jamie. The tree is 22'' tall and made from scraps of mild steel left from mirror projects. It is MIG welded and mostly 16 ga. steel. The top is from a bicycle gear. I cut a hole in the base and inserted a steel tube with holes in it to let the light through and put in a green light. It weighs a couple of pounds. Lin » reply This is very interesting,

Hi, Mele, this is the closest photo I have. I welded random pieces of 16 ga. mild steel (cut offs from mirrors I made) into the shape of a cone. It seemed like an easy project until I tried it, hard to control the shape! I used the MIG to add texture and finished it with a wire brush and flapper disk. The bottom is a disk of 16 ga. I cut and fit. I used a hole saw to cut an opening for the light and used tabs to hold the cut out hole in place (as a base for the light fixture). The bottom is a piece of pipe. I wanted lights in it but didn't want to see the mechanics of the light, so I made a tube to fit over the light and blew holes in it to let the light through. I have now added some tiny LED lights that are battery operated. They were the only lights I could find that didn't have way too much wire to hide. Do you get to ride alot? I used to but have now gotten into driving. Lin » reply Thanks for the information.

Thanks for the compliment on the web site! It was a major headache as I had no idea what I was doing. I asked for idiot proof software and after getting into it found out there is no such thing. I have never seen gypsies in person but they are wonderful in the photos I have seen. I used to do alot of camping but don't have the right horses for it right now. Some day i'll get back into it but am enjoying the driving. I'm using my 17 yr. old TB mare and she is bomb proof. She isn't completely sound but good enough for driving. This year she decided she loves the speed in competitive driving but never gets hot. I wish I could say the same thing for her daughter. Lin » reply |
