How was this Finish made?

When I first saw this I thought it was a hammered finish but after looking at it closer it looks like it was done with an acid etch? Any thoughts?

:)

Jim,
looked like hammer texture to me too...... but could be "ground down" weld AND hammer texture.Or might be textured hot with a top tool of very heavily textured material, then ground down.No matter what the texturing process it was softened by surface grinding afterwards.
But the more I look at it.......and seeing the dark LOW areas which seem to be at the same level.........makes me lean towards the "ground weld bead".

Thanks Bill that grinding

Thanks Bill that grinding idea is something I had not considered. Not something I think I would want to do either.LOL.

I suppose the easiest way is to feed it thru the power hammer with some sort of textured spring swage tool.

I was hoping there was a chemical way to get this finish by using muriatic and a stipling of pine tar?
