Why WeaveSmith?

Why WeaveSmith?

Because I do not know what else to call it?
This belt is a prototype. Made from what I call; "copper fiber" because I don't know the proper term for this material. Very fine copper wire woven around a fiber core.

My teacher David Huang gave me a partial spool. I fiddled around with it, tried the usual fiber related techniques; crochet, french knit, yada, yada. I did not like the way the crochet turned out in anything other than single. Moving on . . .

I warped one of my looms with the fiber, did a straight weave and voila the result was very nice.
The buckle is made of jadestone. I bought it in Chicago in May at the Randolph Street Antiques Market.
I love the end result however; warping a loom takes an obscene amount of the copper fiber. I am hoping to locate a specialty supplier . . .someday.
