Forged 3/8ths x 3/8ths stainless steel.
Disc finials have hot punched symbols, then are cold formed convex, then welded to the forged and twisted bar.
This is a new commissioned work for a wonderful client in Israel. She requested both a Sacred Geometry symbol (the pentagram) and a combination sun and moon Buddhist symbol. Also I've punched my glyph F. G. for my last name(Fitz-Gerald) on the back section.
The torc is forged from 3/8ths x 3/8ths STAINLESS STEEL square-stock. It took me a couple of days to make the various punches required to emboss the symbols on the finial discs (and my glyph),and practice hot punching.
This piece will go out tomorrow.
The pattern twist is an ancient CELTIC artifice, but also occasionally seen in other cultures(Egyptian and Greek). But as far as I know the Celts were the first to adopt this pattern, which was initially forged in bronze or gold.
Torcs were worn by both men and women and considered heirlooms , often passed down through several generations.
Archeologists know this because certain of these artifacts have been found in tombs and through carbon dating (and other methods)have been found to be much older than the body and other artifacts interred, sometimes by several hundred years...
Exquisite!!
What a beautiful piece Stephen! Love the use of stainless! never heard of a torc before.... very spiritual! SteelyJan
