This was an experiment in flaming that second ball on there without ruining the stone! Worked! YAY!
Do you have any tips on flaming the second ball without ruining the stone? Have you done this with copper? I started experimenting with coppoer to try to get the process down. Copper takes longer to ball but I am not sure that is the only reason I was unsuccessful.
Tonya - I actually mocked up a little tutorial because so many people asked about it. Its located here:
and I'd glady post it here if I knew how to do an attachment.....or if it was in word format.
Anyway, the 'secret' is to work VERY hot and to protect the stone as much as possible. I got a tip from someone a while back that they took from watching glass workers work with glass. They used wet newspaper to protect the glass...so this is an adaptation of that. The tute isn't very precise, there are some typos...but you'll get the general idea.
Copper will be a bit trickier with the higher melting temp, but give it a go - let me know how it works (or doesn't) and use cheap stones to practice!
A fabulous tutorial - thanks
