Draped Pendant

Draped Pendant

This is a pendant made with sterling and 24k gold foil. The gold foil was applied, then the form was created in a swage block and then I textured the form. I added a wire swirly bail and a few fine silver balls and called it 'done'...but now I'm thinking of reworking the bottom part - just seems to bare down there.

Here is a close up of the bail

Hi Janice,
Your pendant is quite beautiful. It appears that the texture deepens as it necks down.I like that. Perhaps rounding the corners might enhance the effect of the texture variation , but it looks great like it is.Well done.

Hi Janice, your pendant is beautiful. I like the contrast between the intricate swirl of the bail and the subtle textures towards the bottom.

Beautiful pendant!

Hi Janice,
This pendant is beautiful. I love the texture of the gold foil, very unusual.Maybe two small balls at either end at the bottom would be nice.I'm sure even as is, you will have a positive reaction to this piece. Good Luck! Janet R.

Lovely Janice. I have to

Lovely Janice. I have to agree with all the others. This is quite a striking piece right now. You may be correct about something else at the bottom brightening it up, however. It does just seem to be a bit dull down there.
What size is it?

Janice, Nice looking piece!

Janice,

Nice looking piece! I do agree with your assessment that the bottom looks somewhat unfinished. Kind of like you ran out of steam and just quit, or something.

I think you could achieve a look of closure or completeness by nothing more than upsetting the bottom edge to give it some more mass. Perhaps simply turning the last millimeter or so 90 degrees to the front would do it. It would leavea linear element of silver at the bottom that would "enclose" the gold inner detail, resulting in a finished look. It's one thought, anyway.

I'm sure you'll come up with an appropriate solution. Thanks for sharing the process with us!

Organic yet Mystical

Hi Again Janice,
You might want to have someone model your pendant just to see how it reflects the light. Its shape somewhat resembles a parabola, especially at the broad smooth portion. You may better judge what further work you do on the piece by considering how it might take advantage of this virtual image effect. Regardless, it is a wonderful and needs nothing. I just like how both the shape and the complexity of the texture vary in unison. Its organic yet mystical. One end is yin the other is yang.To me,at least, the difference is part of its beauty. Bravo.

Elegant

Janice,

The gilded interior is a nice elegant touch. I suggest that you make another and do whatever you would like to give this second one the finishing touches. That way you will be able to judge the wisdom of your decision and you will have completed a second piece. It is not always wise to try to correct or add onto an item you have created. I like the simplicity of the bail. Congratulation and many thanks for sharing it with us.

Hi all - I appreciate everyone taking the time to comment and it does me good to know its well received by a group I respect so much. :)

I just may take Fred's advice and make another and then also model this one on someone.

You all have given me some great suggestions! Thanks!
