Hi Warren,
I really like the screen, I have one almost identical in my Home.
Man, I made the mistake of showing this to my wife. She loved it!
She looked at me and said why can't you make something cool like that?"
I still haven't answered her......

I to like the originality and the use of texture.
Again your work is truly inspiring!
Well Done.

texture

Hey guys thanks for all of the great comments.
Yeah the texture is something that I try to achieve in most of my work. Seems to me to bring things to life a little. You can not see very well in the picture, but even the heads of the rivets have a textured design. Why just have a smooth rivet head showing?

Hi Warren, nice work with the fireplace screen. I like the texture and color a lot. Did you sandwich the screen material to attach it?

Brass & Steel

I have only joined recently and I have found this particular thread interesting, not only for the superb workmanship but I would also like to pick your brain if thats ok with you of course.
I am smithing (cold-forging) weapons and armour for a re-enactment group and have been for some time using cold-rolled steel for armour and spring steel for weapons.
I have a sword in production at the moment that I like to think of as my first master project and I want to use brass for the pommel and crossbar (hilt).
I have had conflicting advise from several people about metals reacting. I wish to use yellow brass (which will be pound hardened), crossbar over a spring steel blade.
Can you tell me if these metal will react and if so do you know of an alternative
Regards
Kain

Reacting

If you go to this link:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galvanic_corrosion

this may be what the others are talking about. It can be a very slow process when it does happen but the secret ingredient to make it happen is a flow of current through the two pieces.

Steel & Brass

Thasnks a lot Warren. The following link has a table that shows what metal react in galvanic corrosion.
This piece will take me ages to make and it would cause quite a bit of heart ache if the brass did corrode the stell so I might stick with steel on steel.

Great design fit Warren on this piece.
Could work with an Art Nouveau interior or Arts and Crafts Style.
That vegetal shape is indeed pleasing and soft to the eye.
I love that the whole composition is not forced nor busy, just enough of a flourish to remain interesting for years...

Thanks

Thanks Stephen, I have mostly Arts and Crafts style house so that is why I went that direction.
