Heavier Work

Heavier Work

Got the itch to do something other than knives for a few days. I swear to God, If i see another piece of damascus, I'm going to throw up......
This gal is made from 1 1/4 square stock and smaller. Just good old forging and some MIG. The stone was a blocl of mystersy material covered in tar and concrete when I found but boy did she clean up. I just always hate photographing this stuff. As metalsmiths. we know how massive 1 1/4 solid is but it always looks likes twigs on the picture.

This is really great! I like the fine, upward flowing lines to the piece. Heavy stock that has that nice draw gives it such a delicate, refined appearance- very cool with heavy work. I always have a concern about putting sharp things sticking up on furniture- always afraid someone will squewer themselves...It is hard to tell from the picture- are the vertical components textured? Nice rose, by the way.

Hey Guys, thanks for the comments. yeah, everything on here is textured. I hammered the patootey out it. The base legs are not set onto a square, they are set to a diamond. I worry about spikey things too so this table is design to fit in the corner of the room. I love the roses and I'm making an effort to improve them. Thats the only thing about having good books, like "Architectural IronWork". Everytime you think you have build something nice, you see pics of the good stuff. Quick way to remove an ego. Think it was Tom Joyce that did this Heron Railing and I am Hell bent to produce something on that level.....
