firescreen-to be featured in Wiltshire Life Jan 09

Hello
Long time since visiting artmetal!. We seem to have had one disaster after another recently.
We have managed to gat a two page spread in Wiltshire Life magazine in return for this fire screen as a competition prize. Forged steel surround feet and handle with reclaimed copper leaves. Attached with copper rivets. Woven stainless steel mesh, left over from another job, forms the screen with home made stainless edging. Its our first real marketing adventure! Love to know what you think.
Wonderful to catch up on postings, remember how inspirational this site is.
A question? We have been told that linseed oil and thinners makes a good alternative to waxing for internal pieces? What is the ratio to mix?
Kindest regards
Michelle and Andy

Wax

Hi Andy
the fire screen looks really nice i like the way you incorporated the copper as for the wax question I have been using a wax called renaissance wax which is totally clear and 100% synthetic so it dose not go brown over time and dosent seem to attract dust the way of normal wax and its availible in the UK.

Secret

Hi guys, nice looking fireplace screen. For the secret recipe search using the words "jap dry".

secret recipe

The ratio really does seem to be a secret recipe? I think were going to have to experiment. Like your web site , good distraction for about an hour!

thanks

Will give this a go. My favourite finish is 3:1 oil. Love the way it darkens the low spots. But as this finish is for a bed head I dont think they will want oil all over their sheets!!

1 plus 1

Glad you got distracted for an hour. Yeah oil gets a little messy and also stinks. Try equal parts paint thinner and boiled linseed oil with a shot or two of Jap dry. For a thinner mix just reduce the linseed oil. You can also add some wax but takes long time to dry.
