Table

Blacksmithing Furniture Gallery ![]() Here's a table style I'm working on. This is the first one. It's 32 by 15. Legs are 3/4 inch. I'm trying to decide whether to put a smoke tinted glass top or soapstone. The local stone is white or light gray in color and normally comes a 1 1/4 thick. So what do you think? Design, what top, or I could do the legs with tenons and put a metal top I agree, a pretty gray stone

I agree, a pretty gray stone would look great. » reply Beautiful....you could use anything

Your table is strong and powerful...nice. I would like it with a piece of glass ...make it more modern. Even an exotic wood like zebra wood...could be edgy. Congradulations on a beautiful piece. Janet R. » reply I guess it will be both

Thank you, I guess I'll try both. The wood I don't have easy access to, so I'll wait on that. On the subject of soapstone, for those that have never worked with it. It's really easy to shape. You can cut it with a cutting disk, drill holes in it using a hole saw and shape it with a wood rasp. I'm lucky in that I live near a quarry and can got it pretty cheap. Then I still think it has to be soapstone with "key" holes for the pieces that stand up higher than the top. So the top is bigger and curves out around the knobs. Just my opinion, » reply That would look really nice,

That would look really nice, Mele, but I'm afraid that with only 15" of base for more than 30" of height and top-heavy to boot, it would be unstable. Maybe not, though. Certainly worth a try, I guess. :-) Rich » reply nice

I ordered the glass. 18 inch circle of 1/2 smoke with curved edges. Tomorrow or Friday, I'll start cutting the soapstone. This is really just a test piece to see how it looks. Rich is right, I've made it a little top heavy. Gerald Boggs » reply My thought would be the

My thought would be the glass would help show off your metal skills. What if you added a second shelf on the lower ring. It would help add balance and showcase maybe a plant or another piece of art. The legs could also be flared slightly, but that might not be your style. It will be fun to see your pictures when it is done. Nice job. » reply Excelent work!

I think either one one would look great. The metal work will draw enough attention to compliment whichever top you choose. Nice job. Please posts pictures when you get a chance. Jake » reply table legs

I finished the top and posted a couple of photos. Sorry about the overview, somehow the photo got turned sideways :-( Glass might be a couple of weeks. I can get it quick but pricey at one place or I can get it slow but cheap at the other. I went with the other. Gerald Boggs » reply Thanks Rob :-) Gerald Boggs
