Hey Frank! Nice work as usual. Can't wait to see the finished product. You and Paula have such a good way with birds. What reference are you using for depicting anatomy, flight, etc?

Skeleton

Hi Rob,
Thanks.I've looked at every picture I could download of the Raven.I watch them every chance I get. I love the Raven. The most helpful picture I've ran across is an illustration of the Raven skeleton. You can see things like the fused spine in the wing area, where the legs attach, where the beak hinges yadda yadda. I make the armature follow the external shape of the wing at the leading edge rather than the skeleton as this is where I weld feathers on.However looking at the skeleton reveals where wing bones hinge and bend, ans what way they can move.
The spiny metal feathers each have a unique musical sound that resembles a simple music box. They also closely resembled fish hooks until I dulled the points.

Very nice!

I see you got some of the rainbow effect anyhow. Is this a beginning of a complete bird, or just a head?
I like the way it looks either way.

Rainbow

Hi Rick,
Thanks. The rainbow is more controllable on a smooth piece. The feather spears won't cooperate. It'll be an entire bird when complete. I added the feet today.

I was Tricked

Hi Janet,
Thank you very much. The truth of the matter is that the Trickster tricked me into making this piece. I was dreaming of angels when this Raven, the Trickster, entered my resting thoughts.I'll have no control over my dreams until this bird is complete.
