Great work How are you

Great work

How are you going to mount it? Will you darken it much more with the Gun Blue?
I have been thinking of trying that Birchwood Casey Blackener Chemical on a set of andirons. Sounds interesting.

Mount

Hi Jim,
Theres a metal rod extending from the left wing so I can mount it flying sideways in the wind. Quite a few people have suggested using a stone for the base, so I'm looking into that option. The gun oil left me with a very dark metallic gray color after three applications, then a coat of oil was applied. More coats equals darker color.I'm pleased with the color that was achieved.

A piece of Blue Ice granite might make a nice base.

Thanks Grizz

Hi Grizz,
That darker patine sure brings out the texture. I'll be using more color in my work from now on. I do like the "rat-rod" patina of bare metal though.

Verrrry nice!!! How wide is it wingtip to wingtip? It would be nice to see it completed after it is mounted.
Thanks for sharing.

How Big?

Hi Gail,
Thank you.Actually there is a more recent post showing the finished and mounted Raven. Look for Finished Raven "AuTrain Wind". The wing span is 45" but the wings are not extended straight, so the sculpture is 35" between wing tips.
