Sold another piece today

Today, I sold my sixth piece out of the Detroit Artist Market this year. The sculptue was a metal sun. When looking, it seems to be my year; if you add up the large projects I've been deeply involved with and the continued selling of work. And again, it can only get better, since I'm doing a garden show in Gross Point, MI on June 22nd. I'm making some cool garden sculptue, including; a birdbath, folding screen, plant stands and a wild city scape for the show. I'll post some picks soon.

Absolutely Gorgeous!

Hi Don, Love your sun. Can't see the detail too well on my computer but I like the different textures. Congradulations!
There are plenty of people out there that appreciate our work as it comes from another place. If it's honest it's felt. I had someone tell me at this past show how much natural energy was in my work. She could really feel how it came from me. I like that. We do it unconsciously. So enjoy,
you deserve it. Janet

Thank you for the response. It means a lot when your efforts are noticed. Janet, I see your into martial arts; I was a prize fighter for a number of years and my father trained over 13 world boxing champions. And on top of that, one of my favorite classes in college was eastern culture and religions. I use alot of it in my approach to art. This might sound simple, but, original piece is 14 feet tall and made of car bumpersAli bust (plaster reproduction): original piece is 14 feet tall and made of car bumpersdo you use "martial arts" in your art?

Congratulations Don on the

Congratulations Don on the sale of your art! Does sound like you are having a good year.

Janet, did you try clicking on the sun image and then again on the "original" link? When artmetal members are logged in, they have the ability to see the full version of photos uploaded. I did look at the original, and it is a bit fuzzy, but it's large enough that I do get a good idea of how it was made.

Martial Art/Art

Hi Don,

OOH ! Martial arts has provided me the gift of discipline and focus. There have been plenty of nights when I was working on a deadline and I was totally exhausted. The discipline and concentration was there to help me get over and put it into overdrive. Many an all-nighter I credit to karate. Also I have always wanted to write an article for the likes of Black Belt Magazine about this subject: Artists are constantly on a see-saw with their work. One day you have a show, you get some press, you sell some work. Your on cloud nine......Next minute comes the
crash. Janet who????? you call that curator and your already out of their consciousness. In Karate , you train hard, you get your belt and you avance to the next level.
You work hard , advance and are respected for your hard work. This sense of achievement has helped me through the times where my work has come to that standstill. Now I don't get as affected. (to a degree).
On the other hand I did start a series of plasma cut steel paintings, called "Warrior Women With Weapons". I havent had time to develop them yet, but they are definetely on the back burner. Janet
