Design Gallery | color | graphic design | painting | shape ![]() This is a painting I did in 1986 when I was doing the Visual Engine Series. It is 48" high and 72" wide on tempered hardboard. It is painted with 6 coats of Lasceau acrylics. The idea was to visualize the finger strikes and foot pedal action of a jazz pianist. In fact, I did the initial drawing while listening to pianist Tom Lawton practice on his grand piano. I dedicated it to him since he was such a good friend, allowing me to audit his playing. He now plays at the Four Seasons in Philadelphia. Nic East Music of the Swirls

Hi Rob; Pianojazz was originally drawn while listening to Pianist Tom Lawton practice. His studio was adjacent to mine in 1981 and I often enjoyed listening to his colorful playing as he composed or arranged his music. I wanted to make a picture of what I saw in my mind as I listened and so I drew this on a scrap of letter sized graph paper with the idea of enlarging it later. Recently, I took a few shots of trumpet player Stan Slotter in front of the painting which hangs in my Great Room. Nic East, Jim Thorpe, PA USA Creativity begins with a novel thought. » reply |
