Don't assume creativity, as Salinger said to Hemingway

Hey Stephen,

Thanks mate; kind of you. Funny thing is ; I get more of a sense of achievement
from comments from fellow metal workers than from the blessed client who are paying for it...

Crazy creative attitude eh?

Love your work by the way.

Andy

Dear Andy,
Not a crazy attitude at all.
I feel the same way. Your contemporaries and peers in the metal world know WAY MORE how difficult it is to do what you do,more than any client ever will...And we are forever engaged and interested in talking shop.We are always anxious to hear the little epiphanies you experience along the way, both in terms of fabrication and BEAUTY.I think this may be universal in regards the art of fabrication. I was just at the local John Deere dealership getting my tractor back from the repair department, and these guys know that I make large metal sculptures. We had a fascinating little interlude about the design breakthrough that FORD initiated by having their hydraulic fluid resevoir built into the tubing frame of their tractors themselves...LOL

Up Up Up

Hi Andy,
Wish I was experiencing your spire in person. Even in the photo, as my eyes follow the line, it goes up, up, up and continues into those icy cirrus clouds.

Cloud society

Frank,

Thanks: lyrical...

Wouldn't it be fun to live in the clouds? I imagine you'd have to be fairly light footed to tread on a cirrus. Strato cumulus may be my prefered platform.

If I could write which I can't, I always thought there could be a cloud dwellers
almanac.

Andy, it looked good in the shop but looks fantastic on site.Which road is it on? Did you get it electro polished?

andy kat's picture

Thanks Feral, It's on

Thanks Feral,

It's on Cheetham Hill Road and it's well bolted down.

I wish I knew more about electro polishing.

This was hand polished and took a very long time.

Wouldn't spec jewelry finish again on such a large piece...

Definitely check out electro polishing Andy,it will blow you away.It won't completely replace conventional polishing but will certainly make it easier...

I wasn't suggesting for a moment that you were. However, there are some opportunistic folk around those parts!

Love it! Good thing it is placed on such a rough surface, otherwise you might have to worry about skateboarders. This has the makings of a real hot spot for skate mags.
