telling shot II

telling shot II

An annealed copper sheet is placed on a rubber pad or sheet of neoprem. The wire is placed where the fold is to be. Rubber cement will hold it in place long enough. A metal plate or heavy sheet of plexiglass is placed over this, forming a sandwich. The sandwich goes into the press. Straight lines are no problem. Each line gets it's time in the press. Folds can also be created in the middle of a sheet.. Curved lines are where the fun begins. The shell piece and the triangle pc use curved lines. In my work folds have become a major element. Anneal often. These pcs are all 22 ga. Not as hard as you thought. enjoy Brad

cool...... I remember

cool...... I remember C.L.Brain showing this process during a fold forming demo. As cool as I thought the straight lines were.........he really got my creative juices going when he showed the curved "possibilities". Great to see what your coming up with........ more more :)
thanks for sharing Brad.

as I understand it

As I understand it C.L. Brains technique was called foldforming useing metals characteristics. What's really cool about this form is that after pressing just two lines the copper climbs off the table. Gets taller in the middle like a pyramid of sorts. That climing is due to the stresses within the metal. Fold forming is MR. Brain's child I'm just trying to understand it more. As processes go this area is a very young metals technique. Invented in the 1980's I think there's lots of room to explore possibilities. Combine that exploration with Seppa's work on form and anticlastic raising with Marshals hydraulic press work. Things just start to happen. Working on the curve side of things keeps the juices flowing. I'll post more pics beginning of the week. There a couple of hammered pcs coming off the bench soon. They are based on hyperbolic paraboliods. I own hammers, too. Having great fun in the studio. Thanks for noticeing. Brad

Okay, I'm trying to wrap my

Okay, I'm trying to wrap my brain around this, but I'm coming up short. If you are having a hard time creating a pictorial essay of how you create these beautiful forms using fold forming and a press, I will be happy to assist you in presenting the information here on artmetal so everyone can understand the process. Just let me know.

Thank you for sharing Brad!

I thought I did.

I looked for a very telling way to show the process. But I guess I missed the mark. Are you sure you weren't talking to the cute girl behind you and just missed it. Oh well my fault. I will try again, more pics in a series of the double curve pc that interests you. no problem. Give me a couple of days. It's sharing until I write a lesson plan. lol Might need the assistance, won't turn down an opportunity to learn. Let me get the necessary pics in a file first. Very kind of you to offer. Brad
