Hey Rick, It is plain sheet

Hey Rick,
It is plain sheet metal. I buy it at the scrap yard and grind the white powder coat paint off of it. I didn't clean it at all after I made the flowers. I sprayed it with Insta-Rust let it turn pink and then sprayed it off with water, then sprayed it with Rust Arrest, then sprayed it with copper plate. Dried it lightly with a torch and sprayed it again with copper plate. Let it sit a while and before it was completely dry sprayed a clear coat on it. I had no idea it would dry yellow, my intention was to stop it from rusting. It looked really dark when it was wet. Anyway I went out to dinner and when I came back it was dry and yellow. It's really pretty in the sun. I sprayed it again today with clear coat, I really hope it maintains this color even though it will be outside. I'm getting some rainbow torch this week and I hope it will be fun to.
Thanks, Mele

Mele-
This is really a great effect. I like the way the patina transitions upwards from the base. I think that even if it continues to rust under the clear coat outside, the effect will be nice- kind of like a piece maturing over time...

LOVE the flowers and the color too - from the picture the leaves don't look like they've been clear coated - have they? What gauge is the metal?

Hey Metal Momma!
Hope you had a great Christmas, since you got a new welder I guess you did. No the leaves are not coated. They are just treated with Inta-Rust. I think is about 20g. I have some 18g and it is hard to cut by hand. This stuff is easier. Hurry and make stuff and send us pictures.

Mele-
This is a really nice piece- I can imagine it flowing in the wind in the Fall with the Fall colors behind it. I could imaging a garden filled with these!

Thanks so much. I am working on an arbor (my first big piece) and think I will put some of these at the base on the sides. With our drought this summer a steel garden might just be the ticket!
