"Vortex Panel",Tuscan Castle detail

One of a dozen interior railing panels in Art Nouveau Style I designed and fabricated for the interior of a Tuscan style castle.
Forged steel with a clear coat lacquer finish. The client requested the interior railings be a bit more expressive and extravagant in style than the somewhat staid exterior with it's repeating pattern. Part of the decision was simply economic. The exterior was over 350 ft and the interior some 250 ft,so the decision was made to spend the "real"money on the shorter, more intimate interior space. I was pretty much given carte blanche with the free form design of the interior. I tried to keep the flow of energy consistent as one enters the huge house and proceeds up the spiral stir to the second floor. There is an open well above the entrance threshold,so the upstairs catwalk rails are immediately seen upon entering.
