The house is an exquisite 1928 Arts and Crafts Style home,very spacious,lots of light from big windows and LOTS of rooms.Even though the house is in a more restrained style,the clients love Art Nouveau and gave me the freedom to explore that vernacular. The pool has no railing around it so the only barrier from the street is my driveway gate and what I build in the front of the house. This requires me to fabricate to code(no 4"gaps) which is a royal pain in the ass if you're trying to create beauty...
Art Nouveau is one of my favorite styles to work in and this particular design is one of my better original plans. The clients named it the Guimard Gate,(for Hector Guimard)but Victor Horta holds more of an inspirational spell over me,if truth be told...
It is 14 feet overall,powdercoated and engineered for auto opening mechanism.
I have made a concerted effort in the last 5 years to reintroduce Art Nouveau as a viable decorative arts style paired with the indigenous local "Mediterranean"architectural vernacular in Sonoma and Marin Counties. My efforts are slowly having an effect...
Not sure if you can tell in this photo but I've forged all the 3/4 square bar "on the diamond",which gives a more three dimensional effect. It's a bit harder to do,but for this gate well worth the extra effort...
