This is a site specific design.
I made the fireplace surround and mantel about 10 years ago and the client wanted a new screen to block the hideous airtight insert stove that was installed in the firebox(for efficiency, and because we have new pollution regulations about open hearths in the county).
The surround is CURVED and has been bead blasted. That's why it has a matte finish, but it too is stainless steel. To lend an accenting contrast ,I've designed and built a screen in POLISHED stainless that matches the curve. The central 26"dia. hole is a heavy stiff steel screen that you can see through, but it completely obscures the revolting stove within...
On a technical note, the curved SURROUND was fabricated in two pieces and the initial operation was to SKIP CUT with the laser. After this the two pieces were ROLLED to accomplish the curved radius. They were then returned to complete the laser cutting which can follow precisely it's original skip cut. It was the first time I had used this new technology and it's variants. As long as the rolled radius is not to severe, the laser can accomplish the task. This is why I built it in two sections ,to make sure the radius was low enough so the laser could handle it.
Nice fireplace! I don't
Nice fireplace! I don't think I've ever seen stainless with that finish. I like the look.
