Thanks Rich...

...for the advice on silicone bronze. This is the piece- a door knocker. The snaffle bit is silicone bronze (5/8" round), the plate is aluminum bronze (1/4" x 6", couldn't find silicone bronze in plate). The new owner is most pleased.
