Interesting piece Rob ...sort of reminds of a bear trap on acid..

Rob,

This piece is really cool. What kind of creature is that (dragon)? I'd like to see some close ups of the detail. Very creative!

Hi JR-
Thanks for your comments! Yup, it is a dragon (I realize it is a severely overdone motif). I guess the nice thing about mythical creatures is that nobody can say you got the anatomy wrong…
Thanks again!

The door latch is incredible. I love all of the details, the organic feel, and of course the dragon. You and a few other members on this site have a talent for creating sculptural figures out of solid metal. A skill that, as of yet, escapes me. Is it forged out of one piece or did you forge components and weld them together?

Nice work!

Jake- Thanks so much! First

Jake-
Thanks so much! First of all, the animals that you have made are fantastic and a combined source of inspiration and envy for me every time they pop up on the home page. The body of the dragon is one rasp (for the scales) drawn out on the 110# air hammer (widened, not lengthened), then folded over. The belly is welded on separately. The legs are made in a similar way and welded on separately. In a former life, I needed to be familiar with the functional anatomy of various mammalian species. So now I just imagine how my critter might want to be able to move in life, and give him the requisite anatomy.
