Balcony Perimeter Hand Rail

BALCONY PERIMETER HANDRAIL:

This handrail was commissioned by one of the historic churches in Philadelphia. It is a bit over 60 ft. on the long sides and is 35 ft. on the short side. It was fully installed just before Christmas, 2009.

The balcony has a low ledge. The building and property committee, of the church, decided it was finally time to help the folks who tend to get vertigo while near the edge...and to protect the church from lawyers by getting a handrail/guard installed in the balcony.

I submitted a design they found to be sensitive to the historic architecture. My aim was to make something which looked like it was always part of the church.

It was a real privilege and honor for me to get this commission. John Adams prayed here when he was in Philadelphia, doing the spade work of building our nation. It was one of the few buildings which the British sacked while they occupied Philadelphia. My work will be the last architectural detail added to the sanctuary...and it is somewhat humbling to know that the work will be up for as long as this old church still stands.

Dear Pezzi,
Philly is dear to my family as well.
My father made the large copper and stainless milkweed pod in Independence square when I was a kid.
