Hi Paula, Making these doors

Hi Paula,
Making these doors was a bit of a challenge due the weight (my guess is between 400-500 lbs each set of house) The contractor, not the house owner, chose a gauge for the door posts that seem to be ok till the time came to weld the set of 8 heavy duty custom machined hinges. Cutting down the cost of the posting meant a lot of trouble for me, the metal fabricator. I had my doubts about using such gauge to hold well these security doors, but I carrid on,and took me double the time they should have taken, had I known better. Frankly,I had not much experience with heavy doors like these,so it meant tution for me to pay.The big decorative pulls on the left house were made a skeleton cover with light sheet and texture welding + grind.......The pulls of the house on the left,I decided to make with concrete, and then texture them with poliester plaster. The doors came out fine, but barely made any money. On the next set I should make up I hope. nelson.

Very nice decorative art

Very nice decorative art door handles Nelson! You may not have made a lot of money "this time," but you got a great portfolio piece and a tremendous amount of experience from this job. I am sure the next job will not only be more artistic due to the portfolio piece, but also more financially supportive.

Thanks for sharing!

Hi Quique, First of all

Hi Quique,
First of all Happy New Year to you and all on this site, and to all, out of it too. Yes, I`m also in complete agreement with the "tuition" rule of life... Thanks for your compliments, and want to take advantage of the oportunity to wish you the best accomplishments on your newer professional and personal endeavors. Sincerely, Nelson.

Good Eye...

Hi Nelson,
The architecture of the house pair is refreshing compared to what I observe here in the Midwest. Your doors add a needed individuality to the mirrored structures. They also bring an organic component to the entries, enhancing the curved entry roof. I think I would have had the stoop shaped like the roof above and with equal risers, rather than the forty-five degree chamfer. Well done Nelson.
Merry Christmas brother,
Frank

Frank, you really have a

Frank,
you really have a keen eye for details. If you look at the house on the right, the work was done as you are suggesting.
On the contrary, the house on the left doesn`t look as well for that stoop-roof missmatch. The owner on the right house turned out to be a big SOB, so the contractor got fed up with him and came to the point he was about to sue him. He is a real nice guy and held on the suing. Sometimes I guess people reach a point where chamfers, etc don`t matter anymore you know what I mean... nelson.
