Hi Martin, I like your piece. I too am interested in the mathematics of the golden rule, but haven't done much with it lately. I bought a book about ratios, the golden rule, pythagerian(sp?) theorem, etc and how they can be found in nature. Interesting stuff, might have to revisit that again. Jake Jake Balcom » reply Hi Jake

Thanks for your comment. I'm not a math expert but math is certainly an amazing product of the human mind. I really enjoyed applying the concept of the golden section in making that piece. Do you have the title of the book by any chance? I would like to make a table using the concpet again Martin » reply The Golden Mean, Fibonacci

The Golden Mean, Fibonacci numbers, etc are all interesting and do seem to have some relevance for establishing a pleasing format for a composition. Sadly, however, scrolls drawn from the Golden Ratio just never quite do look right. For a scroll to look correct, the negative space must have the correct diminishing proportions just as the positive aspect does. This is not something that can be done mathematically, it is more a matter of seeing the smooth, continuous form in one's mind and reproducing it in the real world. Snails can do it without thinking, the lucky little beggars. :-) » reply |
