Your metal rose pics look awesome. How do you get that texture on the metal like that. I am a begginer at metal art so I have lots of dumb questions.
Thanks Louie, I actually carved some slightly crisscrossing lines in the face of an old hammer with a grinder and an abrasive cutoff wheel. Then I just hammered the steel when it was red hot. Took a little bit to get the direction and spacing but worked out pretty good. Two tips, first cut the lines at an angle across the face of the hammer and second, make sure to round the edges of the hammer. It might have been better to have made an anvil stake, I don't know. I might try that next.
Thanks for answering my question. I love blacksmith work. I am just getting started, I will make some tools to try out. How large a punch do you use? What size should I start with? Thanks again.
