gate decorations for alleyways

This is a project that was made after many months of the client(a 71 year old lady called mavis)constantly pestering the local council for funds to brighten up some security gates that keep out undesirables from the back yards of the residents. I am told that the residents, a mix of many different races and cultures, regularly use the now secure area to socialize with each other. She is now campaigning for more funds to add more work to the other alley gates!gate decorations for alleywaysgate decorations for alleyways

Hi Adrian, what a great gate! I love the colors, it makes the alley feel like a garden. What kind of paint did you use? I am always worried about the paint chipping off. Lin

hi Lin, thanks for the comments. The paint i have used is called hi build vinyl. It is a very scuff and chip resistant paint. It takes about 7-10 days to cure, but it comes in the full spectrum of colours.

I am presuming you have to use a self etching primer, do you have to top coat it? I have gotten so many conflicting ideas on paint that I have been afraid to use it for outdoor steel. Lin

Apparently the etching primer is in the paint. The project was`nt galvanized as there was not enough in the budget. So it has just been primed and the top coated. The rep at the manufacturers told me it can be painted directly onto clean bare metal as that is what it was designed for.
