Valerie and Adalid's Bracelets

The next project is a textured cuff bracelet. Valerie's (left) is brass and Adalid's (right) is aluminum (from a piece that Les sent)

Much of the time, for this project the students do not pierce the piece, but both of these students chose to work with the positive and negative space before texturing their bracelets.

Such a contrast. One is so

Such a contrast. One is so geometric and the other so flowing and organic. I like them both and feel the that the more geometric one is more likely to be worn by a guy and the other by a girl.

Both nicely worked pieces.

Both nicely worked pieces.  I like Valerie's for its playfulness - lots of detail and different shapes, it looks fun. Great hammer texture too.  Is the colour a heat patina on it? or is it a reflection?

Adalid's is more simple but strong looking, it occured to me that it would look less finished or all round 'considered' if the surface of the aluminium had been left plain, so that's a nice touch.

Looking forward to more!

Bravo Valerie and Asalid
You have learned about the jewelers saw..Two things happen when learning to saw, one there is mastering the sawing action making curves staying straight. The other is learning how to change blades..In the beginning it was a toss up which I was better at. I'm glad you took on the extra work of building bracelets. They have a magic moment when they turn from a flat sheet of metal into something wearable. Wearable is big deal in the jewelry world, though often overlooked by today's designers. What could you do to make them more wearable? Bracelets, anklets, and arm bands are basically the same shape, do you see that each one of them is a different design problem? Cookie time. The opening of your bracelet can be made smaller. Here's how to put it on. The thickness of your hand is less than the thickness of your wrist. Slip the bracelet on between your pointer finger and your middle finger over the palm of the hand. Cant wait to see what you come up with next..Well done.. Brad

Nicely done, kids ;-)

One of the things too many people forget when making an item that has a function, it that the prime purpose of the item is that it function as it's intended. In this case, the function of your bracelets is to be something that, beyond learning some techniques, is something that someone would want to wear, and both of these items pass that test- for the right outfit(s), these bracelets would be a lovely complement. That said, as a pair, I could easily see the same person wanting both, because each expresses a different mood in their styling ;-) Well done, kids ;-)

Nice start ladies. Valerie's

Nice start ladies.

Valerie's use textures and the varied colors of the brass add depth and richness to the design making it a very pleasant piece of jewelry.

Adalid's treatment of aluminum is almost a perfect counterpoint to Valerie's piece. The simplicity of the design and smooth finish accentuates the clean color of the aluminum.

It almost makes me think it's deliberate. If so, very well done ladies. Wonderful contrast of style, material and treatment.

Please post more pics.
