This is my first attempt at metal sculpture. I made this in about 40-50 hours out of 1 mm mild steel cutting every feather individually with the plasma and tacking them on. The salmon was made in 2 ha

The piece is weighed. The piece is 21" * 6.5" * 12" and weighs 109 lbs. It will need to season for a while and then be coated with a patenizing compound. The work should be ready for exhibition in a couple of months.

The assembled piece is now moved with a hoist because it is heavier than I am comfortable with moving by myself.

The welds are cleaned up with a grinder.

When the arcs are securely welded to the base, the piece of steel used to hold the arcs in alignment is removed and subsequent welding operations are performed to completely weld the arcs to the base and to fill the grooves ground into the base.

With the two arcs held in alignment, the arcs are welded into grooves cut into the base piece.

A piece of steel is welded to the two arcs to hold them in alignment for subsequent handling and welding operations.

Laying out the pieces. The two smaller arcs have the same circular radius, but are not the same size. The center point on each is marked and the pieces aligned on the center points with the straight sides parallel.
