After printing out the dragonfly railing to scale on my Roland PNC-950 plotter, It was time to clean off the steel work table and layout this new design using tracing paper underneath the drawing.
By using a wax free tracing paper underneath the drawing and a serrated tracing wheel, the pattern is transfered directly to the work table. The tracing paper and wheel can be found at any fabric store and is commonly used to trace clothing patterns on fabric.

Once the image is transfered using tracing paper, I always go over the tiny visible dots with soapstone. By transferring the pattern onto the work table, I can use it as a visual reference while hot forming the forged ironwork. This is the best way I have found to use the existing scaled drawings and has allowed me to create artwork which is exactly what the client has seen in the presentation drawings provided earlier.
