Accidental Copper Patina

Accidental Copper Patina

I finished a copper repousse lion and I wanted to patina the piece and then buff the highlights. I didn’t have any fresh liver of sulphur so I tried a 10 year old bottle of liquid liver of sulphur. I knew it wouldn’t work but I tried it anyway. I left the piece in the container for a month and forgot about it. When I took it out it had a nice steely gray color to it. I dipped it in a fresh solution to turn it black and then buffed the highlights with pumice. I figured that the original steel colored patina would wear off and I would copper on black. Instead the first layer buffed to a nice sheen that looks like polished steel.
