You might want to get in touch with Tony Swatton...He is a Master Blacksmith out in Burbank and has his own shop. He may be an excellent person to talk to about Blacksmiths in the area...

His creations are handcrafted, and are accurately made in accordance to history. Tony specializes in armour and props for film and television, and those who like to collect period pieces. He makes one of a kind pieces and does not mass produce.

I was really impressed to see all his creations as well as books that he refers to. Some of his masterpieces include Hook, and Pirates of the Caribbean. I felt as if I was in a museum of the Medieval times with all the Chain Mail and Armour. He has made many pieces, and from what I understand he works all the time.

I did get to sit and talk for a bit with Sue...she does the Chain Mail for Tony. She even demonstrated one of the weaves I've been trying to learn, but have not been able to get the pattern.

Tony was also doing some demonstrations, but I didn't get to see as he had such a big crowd around him. I do plan on going back to visit when there isn't so many people around. Maybe even get to talk metal with him.

Here is the link to his website: www.swordandstone.com

Phillip Bowling is also another Blacksmith out in North Hollywood. I worked with him for a very short time making firescreens. You could check out his work as well. http://nobleforge.com/ I believe he knows many other Blakcsmiths as well, or at least he could point you in the right direction.

Adams Forge would also be a great resource...this is the same circle of people that Tony Swatton demos for...here is the link: http://www.adamsforge.org

Hope that helps...

Cheers,

Jamie Santellano
