I have spent some time traveling around Ireland, and of course taking a great interest in symbols of the ancients and found that YES! some of the symbols recorded in stone LITTERALLY! are common with other cultures around the world. We must remember that back before religion etc. etc. the people of that time studied the land, the stars, and the weather. They didn't communicate through words-they created art, and drew on Cave walls, and stones. Ireland is filled with lots of symbolism. My favorites are the Triple spiral-spirals in general, and the Triquetra.
