Thank you for the response. I doubt if I'll be on a ladder!

Yes, I have considered arc welding, I'm actually signed up for a spring course that includes both oxyfuel and arc welding. I may end up with a stick welding machine at some point, but I like the idea of the versatility of oxyfuel.
