My dragon will be a full 3-D freestanding sculpture. I’m almost complete with the armature, which I will post a pix of, within the next few days. I want my dragon to portray motion, and emphasize the malevolent, yet graceful qualities of this mythological beast. I want the wings (in a raised pose) to be the focal point, which will further accentuate the in-motion aspect of the piece. Any way, these are my goals, and I hope that I can moderately pull this off. I know that I am a beginner in the company of masters, so please indulge me. Please understand, I am not only new to producing art, but I am only now learning how to cut, shape, and weld metal. All my life I have felt that I have been squashing my creativity, which has yearned for expression. At 47 years old, and finally semi-retired, I have found the time and the energy to dedicate myself to art, and metal art is my chosen medium. I love the process, and I have a passion for metal art… works, such as yours, and others on this site.
Like you, I too am just starting to acquire my tools. Hell, I’m welding outdoors atop cinderblocks, using 2 sawhorses with a board as a bench, and buying stuff on an as-needed basis. I really need to dump this borrowed flux cored arc welder (what a mess), and buy a Miller MIG w/argon tank!
To answer your question about future work, my next piece will actually be a commission which I will give away, free of charge. The owner of “Bat Automotive” saw the progress on my dragon wings, and was so enamored by the wings, that he asked me to make him a bat (as in vampire bat) for his business. After that, I have no idea, and I do rack my brain trying to decide what to do next! Maybe a welding table...
For the Love of Metal Art
Josh,
My dragon will be a full 3-D freestanding sculpture. Please understand, I am not only new to producing art, but I am only now learning how to cut, shape, and weld metal. At 47 years old, and finally semi-retired, I have found the time and the energy to dedicate myself to art, and metal art is my chosen medium. I love the process, and I have a passion for metal art… works, such as yours, and others on this site.

Anyway, thanks for the compliment on my fish.
