Any leaks, however small and whether they are acetylene or oxygen are dangerous. Get some "hands-on" instruction from competent teaching authority (local junior college, adult schools, etc.) as quickly as you can. Some of the information you have received thus far is questionable. Check with your local welding supply store and have them explain the difference between anti-back flow and anti-back flash valves. They are not the same and your welding equipment supplier should be able to answer your questions or refer you to someone who can.

Oxy-fuel welding is not something you want to "guess" about or "experiment" with.
