I've spent a long time in the jewelry business. I have found it better to fuse platinum with 18k white gold rather than solder with platinum solder. It won't leave a soft line at the joint. When you polish, the solder tends to leave a drag line because it is so much softer. But if you do use platinum solder--use an extremely hard felt buff when polishing.
