My experience with a mini torch is that very little pressure should be used with them. Back off your regulators and then make very careful adjustments for your flame. It sounds like you are trying to get a small tip to do the work of the next larger one. Each tip on these mini torches has a limited range where they will work. I don't think there's anything wrong with your torch, they are all a bit fussy. Use larger tips if you need a bigger flame, don't try to push the limits of these little things since they don't have the latitude of larger torches.
