The information in these replies is great! However, I have some practical questions for you all. First, how effective is the cupola, or rather the fuel, in terms of filtering slag and impurities? Does the whole charge need to be set up in a very specific way to achieve this automatic skimming effect? What are the guidelines? Where do you find green sand and coke? Is there any reason coke couldn't be used in Gingery's charcoal foundry? Adjusting the air flow and temperature thereof, along with using different fuel (gas/coke), couldn't one melt ferrous metals in the "charcoal" melter design?

I know that's alot to comment on so any replies would be appreciated. Feel free to e-mail me direct---especially if some answers would be wasting time on the forum.

Thanks,

Jason
