I have been coating 3/32" and 1/8" steel rod by running a bead of sil. bronze along the length from top to bottom (the rod is held upright to make use of gravity!) using an oxy- acetylene torch.

I anticipate the need to do hundreds of feet of wire this way and would like to automate the process. My first thought is to use the wire feed mechanism from a mig welder to feed bronze wire and a similar arrangement for the steel....with a fixed gas forge type nozzle to provide the heat at the point of contact. Wire speed and rod speed would be adjustable. Anybody have suggestions? Does this already exist in similar form? Is there a better way? Is this crazy? Thank you for at least pondering....if not understanding! Diane
