: Has anyone tried copper plating mild steel (i.e. copper sulphate solution and a battery charger)? Does the steel go at the anode or cathode?

: The object to be plated is always connected to the negative side of your DC power supply. The positive terminal would be connected to the anodes in the solution, which in this case would probably be copper strips. OFHC copper would be the best choice to help eliminate roughness in the plated deposit. Alkaline clean the part and activate the base metal by a brief dip in 40% (by vol) HCl solution. Nickel strike prior to copper plating would also be advisable.
