I recently purchased an appartment in Madrid (Spain, where the weather is extremely dry most of the year) and the windows are made of Corten Steel. The constructor washed one of them to see how it would look like and the result so far is really ugly with brown-yellow colour.

I would appreciate if someone could tell me how long does it take for a typical Corten Steel to rust and acquire a much darker colour and if it may be convenient to spray it with water to accelerate the process.

Ive also heard that sometimes the steel may receive a post-treatment with some kind of epoxy or cover to prevent stains on the facade coming from the steel when it rains. Could someone inform me on that too?

Thanks a lot in advance.
