When I made my air hammer I wanted ta make sure I could change the dies real fast, ya know. How long does it take ya to change over the regular kind like in them old mechanical hammers. A long time, right? And sucha pain to do that too if you hafta use wedges and all.

Well I thought I ain't gonna do it that way with my new hammer, besides, now I can make up a whole buncha dies for this and wanted to be able ta change 'em real fast, while the iron is in the fire waitin' for another heat and all.

So I decided to bolt my dies instead and what I done was to weld a bar that is supposta be the die onto a thick flat plate which has only two holes in it to bolt through. Why only two holes and not four like some other guys use you ask? Why not, what differunce two holes or four, theys both work just as good so I didn't wanna waste time unboltin' two extra bolts when I don't need to.

I use what they call cap screws only they use a allen wrench to tighten up with insteada regular wrench and you know what? That makes it real nice to tighten down without strippin' or roundin' off the regular kinda bolts, when you pull up real hard and all.

Another thing I do 'cause I ain't got time to waste while the iron is heatin' up and I wanna change my dies real fast is to use a pneumatic socket wrench. I pull the hose off the quick connector I use to put air into my hammer, stick it on my socket wrench which has a special allen stem on it. Then brrrrrr, off the bolts come real fast and I put the new dies in and brrrrrr, theys tightened right up again.

Give everything a final tug by hand and yur ready to take that hot iron outta the forge and get right to it. Of course I hafta connect my air hose back onto the hammer ya know. Don't forget to do that or it ain't gonna work for you.
