round cylinders are often used cause they can be any size variation if cast into a 'wrapped' box form and might also give less plaster investment per inner dimension volume but square away. If an old cardboard box is handy and the sizes are not so large the walls will bulge out or break apart in the pour go ahead. Remember the cardboard gets wet before it has set so may want to wrap it with binding tape also... or use a wood box to start.
